Welcome to Constellations
This is the very first edition of Constellations—a space where I’ll share ideas, inspirations, and small joys that I’ve collected along the way. Think of it as part show-and-tell, part essay, part field notes on building place and community.
One of the things I loved most when I was running my shop, Viscera, was the act of curation. Before algorithms and influencers filtered what we buy, read, or watch, we relied on one another. Museum curators, travel agents, bloggers, or friends introduced us to things we might love. In many ways, this newsletter is a return to that: a slower, more human kind of sharing.
As an artist and designer, I’m always gathering scraps of inspiration, whether physical, digital, or purely ephemeral. Back in my shop days, I learned to hone my taste: discerning what was clever, thoughtful, innovative, or simply well-crafted. This newsletter is my way of continuing that practice, with you as my co-conspirator.
One of my distinct childhood memories is my mom buying the Sunday paper. Unlike the slim weekday editions, Sunday’s was thick, brimming with inserts, long-form articles, and a generous arts and culture section. I think that memory has stuck with me because it was about discovery, about lingering with stories and images that invited a slower pace. That same spirit guides Constellations: less about news, more about noticing.
Why Constellations?
The name is a nod to the way meaning emerges when you connect scattered points of light. Each issue will gather things I’ve found delightful and with it lots of room for play, exploration, and discovery.
Two inspirations shaped this newsletter:
Ross Gay’s Book of Delights – a collection of short daily “essayets” that remind us the act of noticing is itself a radical practice. In a culture that constantly pings and distracts us, cultivating delight is an act of resilience.
The 5 Senses grounding exercise – a tool I often use to ease anxiety as an entrepreneur. You count what you see, hear, feel, smell, taste—returning yourself to the present. In many ways, that’s what this newsletter is too: a practice of presence and sharing discoveries.
Constellations is as much for me as it is for you. It’s an indulgence in collecting and sharing delight, a reminder that creativity and curiosity grow the more we use them. Ross Gay writes, “the more you study delight, the more delight there is to study.” So here’s to cultivating, curating, and communing over these cobbled-together sparks. I hope you’ll linger with them—whether you save this for a quiet Sunday morning with coffee or return to it in small doses throughout your week.
And if you know someone who would find joy here too, I’d love for you to share it with them. After all, Constellations aren’t made of just one star, they’re about the patterns we create together.
